It’s been said a basic function of art is to change our perspective. Philippe Ramette has taken that quite literally.

Philippe Ramette's "Balcony II"
Ramette is a French artist who has been creating his unique photographic perspectives since the early ’90s. Ramette himself has commented that his work is intended to spark contemplation of not simply an object, but the endless and future possibilities of said object through a variety of means. For me, though, Ramette’s captured images that suggest the mundane and the fantastic can ever so easily overlap; from his ubiquitous black business suit to the seemingly unremarkable landscapes, Ramette, as the subject of his own photographs, seems to illicit mediation on the ability of one’s self to transcend not simply surroundings, but basic laws of physics and possibilities. After all, those changing perspectives are just as subjective as reality, are they not?
